Intrigue and Love

Friedrich Schiller · 1784 CE · Play · German · Romantic

The son of a duke's president has fallen in love with a town musician's daughter, and his father means to marry him instead to the prince's cast-off English mistress. The president's secretary, who wants the girl himself, has her parents arrested and offers to free them for one letter written to his dictation. A bourgeois tragedy that put a German court's own machinery on stage.
