Queen Margot
Alexandre Dumas · 1845 CE · Novel · French · Romantic
Marguerite de Valois is married to the Protestant Henri de Navarre to reconcile the two faiths, and four days later Paris begins killing Huguenots in the streets. She shelters a wounded gentleman in her rooms and keeps her husband alive at a court where her mother reads the future and prepares poisons to bring it about. Dumas worked from Marguerite's own memoirs and the chronicles of the last Valois years.
