The Circus

Charlie Chaplin · 1928 CE · Film · Modern / American · Modernist

Chased into a circus tent by a policeman, the Tramp wrecks the show so thoroughly that the crowd roars, and the ringmaster hires him on the understanding that he must never be told he is the funny one. He falls for the bareback rider, who is beaten by her father and interested in the tightrope walker. Made through a studio fire, a scratched negative and a ruinous divorce, and Chaplin left it out of his memoirs entirely.
