The Steadfast Tin Soldier

Hans Christian Andersen · c. 1838 CE · Folktale · Nordic · Romantic

Twenty-five tin soldiers are cast from one old spoon, and the last of them comes out with a single leg because the metal ran short. From the table he watches a paper dancer poised on one toe in the door of a card castle, and a goblin in a snuffbox warns him off before a gust of wind takes him out of the window. A love story conducted entirely between objects that can neither move nor speak.
