Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius

Jorge Luis Borges · 1940 CE · Short Story · Latin American · Modernist

A mirror at the end of a corridor and a remark about a country called Uqbar send the narrator to an encyclopaedia whose entry appears in one copy of the edition and no other. The trail leads to a volume describing Tlön, a planet whose languages have no nouns and whose thinkers hold that objects persist only while perceived. Written throughout as a scholar's report on a hoax.
