Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea

Jules Verne · 1870 CE · Novel · French · Victorian

A professor of natural history, his servant and a Canadian harpooner join the hunt for a sea monster that has been holing ships, are thrown overboard, and are taken aboard the creature itself: an iron submarine run by a man who has renounced every nation on earth. He shows them coral forests, the ruins he calls Atlantis and the polar ice, and will not discuss letting them go. Verne's most durable machine story, written when working submarines were barely prototypes.
