The Children of Captain Grant

Jules Verne · 1868 CE · Novel · French · Victorian

A bottle cut from a shark's belly holds three water-damaged messages in three languages, and between them they give a latitude for a shipwrecked Scottish captain but no longitude. A yacht owner takes the man's son and daughter aboard and follows the thirty-seventh parallel right round the world, testing every landfall that it crosses. The absent-minded geographer Paganel is Verne's best comic invention.
