Robur the Conqueror

Jules Verne · 1886 CE · Novel · French · Victorian

The Weldon Institute of Philadelphia is building a steerable balloon when a stranger interrupts its meeting to announce that lighter-than-air flight is a dead end and that the screw, not the gas bag, will hold a craft up. The club's president and secretary wake aboard the Albatross, a deck carried by seventy-four masthead propellers, on a forced tour of the world seen from above. The aerial answer to Nemo, written as the airship craze began.
