From the Earth to the Moon

Jules Verne · 1865 CE · Novel · French · Victorian

Peace breaks out and the Baltimore Gun Club, an association of artillerymen most of whom are missing a limb, is left with nothing to fire at. Its president proposes a nine-hundred-foot cannon sunk into Florida soil to put a projectile on the moon, and a French adventurer cables from Europe asking to ride inside it. Verne worked the ballistics with a mathematician cousin; the rest is deadpan comedy at American expense.
