A Child's Christmas in Wales

Dylan Thomas · 1952 CE · Short Story · English · Modernist

All the Christmases roll down toward the sea like a cold and headlong moon, and the speaker cannot say whether it snowed for six days and six nights when he was twelve or twelve days when he was six. Uncles asleep by the fire, aunts who are not to be spoken to, a cat-stalking expedition in the snow that ends with snowballs thrown at a smoking house, and useless presents and useful ones out of the postman's bag. Assembled out of two BBC talks and a magazine piece, and fixed in the form people know by the recording Thomas made in New York.
