Fern Hill

Dylan Thomas · 1945 CE · Poem · English · Modernist

Young and easy under the apple boughs, a boy is prince of the apple towns on a Carmarthenshire farm, honoured among wagons, green and carefree, the hay fields as high as the house and the calves singing to his horn. Each stanza returns him to the same fields under a different light, the sun young once only, Adam and maiden in the first spinning place. Written the year the war ended, on the farm of the aunt who kept him summers as a child.
