Antigone

Sophocles · c. 441 BCE · Play · Greek · Classical

Thebes has survived a siege in which two brothers killed each other on opposite sides, and the new ruler Creon buries one with honors and leaves the other to rot unburied. Their sister Antigone goes out to bury him anyway, and says so openly. Conscience against the state; two rights colliding until both are broken.
