Women of Trachis
Deianira has waited fifteen months for word of Heracles when a herald arrives with news of his victory at Oechalia and a train of captive women, one of them young and clearly meant to stay. Remembering the charm the dying centaur Nessus pressed on her years before, she anoints a robe with it and sends it to her husband for the sacrifice of thanksgiving. The least performed of the surviving Sophocles, and the one that divides its action between two protagonists who never stand on stage together.
