Mithridate
An old king of Pontus, reported dead in the war against Rome, comes back to find both his sons courting the woman he means to marry. He lays out a false plan of invasion to test them, and gets the truth he did not want. It was Louis XIV's favourite among Racine's tragedies and the one most often chosen for performance at court in his lifetime.
