Bringing Up Baby

Howard Hawks · 1938 CE · Film · Modern / American · Modernist

A palaeontologist one bone short of a brontosaurus and one day short of his wedding meets a woman with a tame leopard, a terrier that buries the bone, and an aunt whose donation he needs, and the party ends up in Connecticut and then in jail. Hawks overlapped the dialogue until the leads are talking through each other. A flop that lost RKO money and got Hepburn called box-office poison; its standing was rebuilt after the war.
