Hercules Furens

Seneca · c. 50 CE · Play · Roman · Classical

Juno opens by announcing that nothing on earth or below it has been able to beat her husband's son, so she will set him against himself. He comes up out of the underworld with Theseus beside him, in time to kill the man who has seized Thebes and threatened his wife and children. Seneca stages the derangement in full view of the audience, where the Greek had kept it offstage.
