Phoenissae

Seneca · c. 50 CE · Play · Roman · Classical

Blind and exiled, Oedipus is being led toward Cithaeron by the daughter who has agreed to go anywhere with him except the one place he actually wants. In a second movement Jocasta is still alive and walks out between two armies of her sons to ask which of them means to be a king and which a brother. Seneca left the play unfinished, without chorus or act divisions, and it survives as two long scenes that never meet.
