Troades

Seneca · c. 50 CE · Play · Roman · Classical

Troy is ash and the Greek fleet is becalmed, waiting on two demands from the dead: Achilles' ghost wants Priam's daughter at his grave, and the army wants Hector's small son somewhere no one can raise him. Andromache hides the boy in his father's tomb, and Ulysses works out where he is by watching her face while he talks. Seneca folds two of Euripides' plays into one and gives the ruined women the longest speeches in Latin tragedy.
