Miss Julie

August Strindberg · 1888 CE · Play · Nordic · Victorian

On midsummer night in a Swedish count's kitchen, his daughter dances with the servants and stays behind with Jean, her father's valet, who has ambitions and a fiancée in the room. Across one night of drink, flattery and calculation the two trade positions by degrees, class and sex changing hands between them. Naturalism at its coldest.
