Moominpappa at Sea

Tove Jansson · 1965 CE · Novel · Nordic · Contemporary

Convinced that nobody in the valley needs him any more, Moominpappa rows his family out to a bare rock in the sea with a lighthouse on it whose keeper is not there and whose lamp will not light. The island's few trees creep away from the wind after dark, the fisherman on the shore answers nothing he is asked, and the Groke comes over the water to sit where the light should be. Moominmamma paints a garden on the lighthouse wall and starts spending her time inside it.
