Moominvalley in November

Tove Jansson · 1970 CE · Novel · Nordic · Contemporary

Six solitary creatures set out separately for the Moominhouse in the wet end of autumn, each wanting something from a family that turns out not to be at home. They move in regardless, quarrel over the kitchen, and begin doing badly the things the Moomins used to do without thinking about them at all. Jansson wrote it in the year her mother died, and set it in the same weeks the family is away at the lighthouse.
