Nine pieces from the valley and its edges: a wanderer trying to hold on to a tune he has only half made, a Fillyjonk who cannot stop waiting for the disaster, a Hemulen who retires from a job everyone assumed he loved. A child turned invisible by an unkind guardian is brought to Moominmamma to see whether anything can be done about it. The shortest of the Moomin books is also the one that looks at loneliness most directly.
