A Manual for Manuel

Julio Cortázar · 1973 CE · Novel · Latin American · Contemporary

A band of Latin American exiles in Paris, half of them former lovers of one another, plan the kidnapping of a diplomat they call the Vip while conducting the erotic and culinary business of an ordinary week. In parallel a couple paste clippings into a scrapbook for their infant son Manuel — torture reports, communiqués, absurd items in three languages. Cortázar gave the royalties to political prisoners in Argentina.
