Esau and Jacob

Machado de Assis · 1904 CE · Novel · Latin American · Victorian

Twin brothers born in Rio in the last years of the empire quarrel in the womb, according to the fortune teller their mother climbs a hill to consult, and grow up identical in everything except their politics, one monarchist and one republican, and in wanting the same young woman.
