Helena
A counsellor's will instructs the household to take in a daughter none of them knew existed, and the girl arrives with perfect manners, wins the family over and unsettles the son who expected to inherit. A priest, a shabby relative and a locked drawer hold the terms on which she came. The most widely read of the early books in Brazil, and the most conventionally romantic.
