In Evil Hour

Gabriel García Márquez · 1962 CE · Novel · Latin American · Contemporary

Lampoons begin appearing at dawn on the doors of a river town, naming who sleeps with whom, and though everyone insists the gossip was already common property, the mayor's curfew and the priest's tally of sins turn paper into blood. The dentist, the barber and the widow watch the old political killing come back through a slit in the routine. The most documentary thing García Márquez attempted.
