Memories of My Melancholy Whores

Gabriel García Márquez · 2004 CE · Novel · Latin American · Contemporary

On the eve of his ninetieth birthday a solitary newspaper columnist asks the madam of an old brothel to find him a young virgin for the night. He finds her asleep and sedated, and begins to fall in love with her. García Márquez takes the premise and an epigraph from Kawabata's novel of the same situation, and it was his last completed novel.
