Of Love and Other Demons
A gravedigger opens a crypt in a colonial port and finds a girl's skull trailing copper hair twenty-two metres long, which sends the narrator back to a marquis's daughter raised by the household slaves, bitten by a rabid dog and shut in a convent to be exorcised. The priest sent to drive out her demons learns her African names and starts mislaying his own. Cartagena as a place where three religions grind against each other.
