Living to Tell the Tale
Gabriel García Márquez · 2002 CE · Narrative Non-fiction · Latin American · Contemporary
García Márquez recalls his childhood with his grandparents in Aracataca, his schooling and law studies, and the years of journalism and poverty in Bogota, Cartagena and Barranquilla that made him a writer. The memoir stops in the 1950s, the first of an intended three volumes, of which no further one appeared. Readers have long traced the people and houses of his fiction back through it.
