Henry Higgins, a phonetician, meets a Covent Garden flower girl sheltering from the rain and wagers he can pass her off as a duchess in six months. Eliza Doolittle arrives at his door the next morning with money for lessons, and the experiment starts in earnest. The statue declines to stay a statue.
