Somersault

Kenzaburō Ōe · 1999 CE · Novel · Japanese · Contemporary

Ten years after they went on television to renounce their own church and call the whole thing a joke, the two founders known as Patron and Guide are found again by the followers they abandoned, among them the faction that had been preparing to seize a nuclear plant. A new church assembles in a Shikoku valley around leaders who no longer believe what they preach. Ōe's first book after the Nobel, written out of the Aum subway attack.
