The Last Battle

C. S. Lewis · 1956 CE · Novel · English · Contemporary

An ape by a waterfall finds a lion's skin, dresses a slow-witted donkey in it, and issues orders in Aslan's name — felling the talking trees, selling beasts to Calormene labour gangs, and telling doubters that Aslan and Tash are one. Narnia's last king is left with a unicorn, a few loyal creatures and two children called out of a railway accident in England. Lewis's gloss was the coming of the Antichrist; it took the Carnegie Medal for 1956.
