Andromache
Hector's widow, now slave and concubine to Achilles' son in Phthia, has borne him a child, and his barren Spartan wife Hermione and her father Menelaus move against the mother and the boy while their master is away at Delphi. Old Peleus and a chorus of Thessalian women stand between them, and Hermione's cousin Orestes arrives with designs of his own. Staged during the Peloponnesian War, its portrait of Spartan treachery is the most openly partisan writing in Greek tragedy.
