The Lady with the Dog

Anton Chekhov · 1899 CE · Short Story · Russian · Victorian

A Moscow banker on holiday in Yalta, bored and long unfaithful, strikes up an acquaintance with a young married woman walking a white pomeranian. The affair is meant to end when the season does, and both go back to lives they cannot leave. An affair meant to be nothing becomes the only true thing in two divided lives.
