The Tell-Tale Heart

Edgar Allan Poe · 1843 CE · Short Story · Modern / American · Victorian

A narrator insists on his sanity while explaining how carefully he watched an old man sleep for seven nights, unable to bear the film over one eye. On the eighth night he acts, then receives the police at the door with perfect composure. Horror staged entirely inside the voice telling it, which is the whole of Poe's method.
