Cain
The first family keeps the anniversary of the expulsion with sacrifice and praise, and the eldest son stands apart, refusing to give thanks for a life that ends in a death he never chose. Lucifer offers to show him what lies outside the garden's account of things and carries him through the abyss of space and the realm of the dead, past worlds that lived and died before Adam, then sets him down again beside his brother's altar. Byron subtitled it a mystery, after the medieval cycles; the blasphemy uproar that followed cost his publisher the protection of the courts.
