The Corsair
Conrad commands a pirate fleet from a rock in the Aegean, feared by his own men and loved by one woman he leaves behind, and sails to strike the palace of the Pacha who is fitting out a force to destroy him. The raid goes wrong in the middle of the fire he set, and a woman of the Pacha's harem comes to his cell with a plan of her own. Ten thousand copies sold on the day of publication, a figure no poem in English had reached before.
