Some Prefer Nettles

Jun'ichirō Tanizaki · 1929 CE · Novel · Japanese · Modernist

Kaname and Misako have agreed their marriage is finished and cannot say so to their son, her father, or the maid; she visits a lover with his consent while he puts the decision off another month. Her father takes him to the Osaka puppet theatre, then to Awaji with a mistress trained in the old Kyoto manner. Written as Tanizaki's own first marriage dissolved, and his turn toward the Kansai past.
