The Broken Nest
Bhupati pours himself into the English-language paper he prints at home while his young wife Charulata drifts through its shuttered rooms with nothing to do. His cousin Amal arrives to keep her company, reads her his verses and goads her into writing her own, which she does better than he does. Satyajit Ray adapted it in 1964 as Charulata and said it was the one work of his he would change nothing in.
