The Road Not Taken

Robert Frost · 1916 CE · Poem · Modern / American · Modernist

Two roads diverge in a yellow wood and a traveller stands long, looking down one as far as he can to where it bends in the undergrowth, before taking the other and keeping the first for another day. Both, it is careful to record, lay worn about the same, with no step having trodden the leaves black on either. Frost wrote it teasing Edward Thomas, who could never stop regretting the path he had not taken.
