Robert Frost · 1947 CE · Poem · Modern / American · Contemporary

A guide who only has at heart your getting lost leads the way back out of all this now too much for us, up a road that is now a quarry, past a cellar hole slowly closing like a dent in dough, to a farm that is no longer a farm and a town that is no longer a town. Along the way lie the shattered dishes of a children's playhouse under a pine, and at the end a brook too lofty and original to rage, with a broken goblet hidden in the instep arch of an old cedar. Frost's late Grail poem, and the piece Randall Jarrell used to argue that the popular reader had not yet met the real Frost.
