Iphigenia in Tauris
Artemis has set Agamemnon's daughter down among the Taurians as priestess of a cult that puts every stranger to the knife, and the king who has protected her now wants to marry her. Two Greeks are taken on the shore, and one is the brother she has not seen since Aulis. Goethe recast Euripides in blank verse for Weimar, stripping out the goddess's machinery and staking the action on what one person will or will not say aloud.
