Mother Courage and Her Children
Anna Fierling hauls a canteen wagon behind the armies of the Thirty Years' War, selling boots, brandy and belt buckles to whichever side is passing, with her two sons and mute daughter in the traces. She bargains hard over every transaction, including the ones in which her children are what is on the table. Brecht's argument that the war and the trade cannot be pulled apart.
